Fingernails - Anna and Ryan have found true love, and it's proven by a controversial new technology
Greek filmmaker Christos Nikou’s Fingernails is a sci-fi romantic dramedy that pushes the boundaries of absurdity and repugnance. The film explores the concept of using technology to determine the compatibility and love between partners. However, the catch is that this test involves the painful process of ripping out one of their fingernails, without any anesthesia.
The story revolves around Anna, an unemployed teacher played by Jesse Buckley, who is in a long-term relationship with Ryan, portrayed by Jeremy Allen White. Despite their monotonous routine of cuddling on the couch and watching nature documentaries, Anna believes they are happy together, especially since they tested 'positive' for compatibility three years ago.
However, Anna hides the fact that she has started working at the Love Institute, a company that conducts these love-certification tests, by telling Ryan that she has taken up a job at a local elementary school. The reason behind her lie remains a mystery. Anna's boss, Duncan, played by Luke Wilson, is an idealistic individual who assigns her to work with instructor Amir, portrayed by Riz Ahmed.
